Steamrollers use a straight open-ended tube with a bowl near one end, creating unrestricted airflow and a fast, forceful clear. They are simple pieces, but their intensity makes sizing and breath control more important than decorative extras.
The large end opening acts like an oversized carb, producing much more immediate airflow than a spoon or chillum. There is no water chamber to soften the draw.
Newer users should favor a smaller tube and moderate bowl. Compare bore diameter, bowl placement, grip features, and whether the piece has feet that keep hot glass from rolling.
Clear the straight tube with a long brush or soak it when needed. Let the bowl cool before setting the piece down, and clean supporting feet where residue can collect.
Check tube length and diameter, not just bowl size. Steamrollers are best for experienced users comfortable controlling a rapid clear and are rarely the gentlest beginner option.
